Cool Tool: Rotten Neighbor

Is a move is in the cards for you? Wouldn't it be nice to get the nitty-gritty on a neighborhood you're considering -- before you move in an discover that the guy next door likes to crank speed metal until 4 a.m. or that the sweet little old lady across the street actually steals everyone's newspapers?

With Rotten Neighbor, you can.

Simply enter your zip code or the zip for a home you're considering renting or buying into the "Know Thy Neighbor" box, and up pops a map with clickable markers for all the rotten neighbors in the 'hood (at least those rotten neighbors that someone has made note of).

Headings such as "Psycho Man: Froot loops," "Racist S.O.B.," and "The SMELL" are followed by explanations of the neighbor's alleged offenses (constantly barking dogs, creepy voyeurism, blighted property, or what have you) -- or the details of their many and varied personality flaws. Add your own rotten-neighbor warnings with a simple click of the mouse.

It's all highly entertaining -- and informative. (How this site hasn't yet been shut down by some ace libel lawyer, I have no idea.)

Enjoy it while you can!

Actually -- this site seems pretty awful! I was excited to look at it based your description, Leah, but I started looking around and realized that the people running it have populated it chock-full of fake information to try and get it off the ground.

For example, look at the homepage 'testimonials' -- stock photos and quotes like 'this site helped us find a great new home' ...

I went and looked around the city of Denver (where I'm closest to) and EVERY SINGLE ONE of the comments was obviously writen by the same person. The names of the commenters all followed a pattern and the writing style of EVERY comment was exactly the same, with an initial first complaint sentence followed by another sentence or 2 of "details" that are vague and have the same writing cadence.

I wouldn't recommend people view this site not because it'll suck you in and you'll spend lots of time on it, but because any time you spend on it will be looking at fake/made up comments and complaints by the people running the site...

My two cents. :)

I can assure you that none of the neighbor postings are fake. I would know, it's my site.

Hmmm. Well after looking around it even more, even comments in other states all sound like they were written by the same person. It's really hard to believe that *something* weird isn't going on...
