The Artful Home: Bella Bigsby Art

I first encountered Bella Bigsby's art during a visit to the wonderful Swallowtail in San Francisco, and it literally stopped me in my tracks.

The artist's work -- rendered in oil, watercolor, and pen and ink -- is infused with the melancholy and starkness of her native Norfolk, England. Indeed, it's nearly always winter in Bigsby's universe, despite her move five years ago to sunny California. And yet her creations possess a sense of calmness and serenity, too. They're easy to get lost in -- and you won't mind a bit.

In the Bay Area, you can find originals and prints by Bigsby at Swallowtail as well as The Gardener in Berkeley (prices start at $280 and up for giclee prints and $900 and up for original works). Learn more about Bella Bigsby here.

Love these two pieces... fond memories of a similar piece my grandparents had.
