Silver palaces. Rolling bungalows. Land yachts. Whatever you call them, vintage travel trailers have some serious retro style.
But good looks aside, these Moderne motels on wheels are a practical purchase for anyone with domestic wanderlust. Wouldn't the circa 1961 Airstream Overlander, above, be just the thing for hitting the open road this summer? The current bid is $10, but I expect it'll go up a few thousand or so before the auction ends. (Of course, you'll have to pick up this baby in Indiana -- but getting it back home will be more than half the fun.)
And while you're roadtripping, be sure to peruse Ready to Roll, Emeryville architect and SF Chronicle columnist Arrol Gellner and photograher Douglas Keister's ode to classic travel trailers.
