Etsy Find of the Day: ShaNickers Tree Stickers

At last, Fall has fallen here. (And despite the heatwave we had last week, I think it will actually stick this time -- it even rained today!) So I'm ready to rekindle my barren-tree fetish, which tends to rear its head about this time every year. There's just something about this particular silhouette that I absolutely love. It makes me feel warm and cozy during these increasingly cool days, and ready to nest for the coming winter.

Etsy seller ShaNickers has a collection of large-scale tree and other botanical wall decals (like Tree in Wind, top, $69) that are surprisingly affordable considering that they'll adorn almost an entire wall with something beautiful. Take a look:

Cool Stuff: Wallflowers

If you have a blank bit of wall and no art to fill it with, how about a casual spray of these magnetic Wallflowers from Umbra?

Etsy Find of the Day: Tree Hugger Wall Graphic

Have we all finally accepted the idea that wall decals are probably here to stay?

It's not such a bad thing. Personally, I kind of like them. They're a quick and simple way to dress up a blank wall and dramatically change the look of a space. Plus, they're a heck of a lot cheaper and easier to apply than wallpaper or a handpainted mural -- and a lot less hassle to un-do when you're ready for something new.

I especially like the look of large botanical decals -- so perfect for bringing a bit of awakening spring inside your home -- and even more so when they're applied in crisp white on a softly colored wall to create a striking silhouette.

The Tree Hugger wall graphic, $35 from Etsy seller Elly Nelly (aka the mom-and-daughter textile design team of Elaine and Nell Oliver), comes in a choice of 16 colors. Combine it with a set of Fly Away bird decals, $22, as shown above, and you'll have a whole lot of look for not a lot of cash.

Trees and birds not your thing? No problem. There are dozens of other decals -- from watchful felines to creeping vines to simple geometric graphics -- in Elly Nelly's Etsy shop. Bonus: The decals can be applied to windows, glass doors, and mirrors as well.

Cool Stuff: Wallies Birch Trees

Here's an affordable (and less permanent) alternative to the lovely "Woods" wallpaper from Cole & Sons that I've been lusting after forever: The Birch Trees mural from Wallies.

Just $40 will buy two sheets' worth of the decals shown above, which measure more than four feet tall when the birch trunks are placed end on end. I'd get two sets and go all the way to the ceiling, or even four sets and do the entire wall.

Plus, you just peel 'em off and stick 'em up -- way less complicated than installing wallpaper.

Cool Stuff: d. Garden Collection

Add interest to a window, a glass or plexi railing, a sliding-glass door, or a mirror with these stickers from Paris-based graphic designer Deborah Sommers, owner of the d. Garden Collection.

Cool Stuff: Good Juju

I've spied these colorful, circular wall adornments in several magazine spreads recently, and wondered what they were.

Turns out, they're feathered headdresses called Juju hats from the West African nation of Cameroon, where they're worn by tribal chiefs and dignitaries during ceremonial events.

When not in use, the hats can be employed as wall hangings that add intense pops of color in an otherwise neutral space -- a decorative use that photo stylists in London and New York have clearly picked up on.

Though it would of course be far more fabulous to journey to Cameroon and procure one there, you can also find Juju hats online. The pink one above, for instance, which measures 33 inches in diameter, is $325 from Authentic Africa. The red version below, not quite 32 inches, is $280 from Design My World.
