Cool Stuff: MissPrint Lampshades

Colorful, covet-worthy lampshades from London's MissPrint (aka designers Yvonne and Rebecca Drury). Cool Stuff: Floral Aluminum Lamp

I'm smitten with this Floral Aluminum Lamp from "eco-tailer" VivaTerra. When lit, its floral cutouts cast a delicate pattern of light and shadow all around.

The pendant lamp with a 12-foot cord is $89, and the shade only is $69 right here.

Cool Stuff: Use UK Lampshades

I'm such a sucker for a graphic, patterned lampshade -- so it's no surprise that I'm loving the shades from Use UK. (Above: Chrysanthemum.)

Each eco-friendly shade is constructed from 100-percent recycled cardboard, and printed with a vibrant, limited-edition pattern.

The shades are made by special order in a variety of sizes and colorways, which range from 32 pounds sterling (about $64) to 71 pounds ($142). Take a look:

Discovered today: Sweet, simple pillows and lampshades from Paper Cloud, started two years ago by husband-and-wife team Matthew and Ariana Broerman, who make the items by hand in their Cincinnati, Ohio home studio.

Each of the Broermans' designs is hand printed on linen in a choice of pretty color combinations. The pillows measure 16 by 16 inches and cost $60 ($45 after discount); the lampshades are $98 to $148 ($74 to $111 after discount), depending on size.

Cool Stuff: Poppy Cotton

If your couches, walls, or lamps are craving a bit of colorful retro pop, check out the cheerful products from Brooklyn-based Poppy Cotton.

Proprietor Melissa Cotton Womack scours flea markets and online auctions to track down vintage textiles from "an era when homes weren’t afraid of a little pop and color." Then she turns these exuberantly patterned textiles into one-of-a-kind pillows, lampshades, and wall hangings that have an unapologetic Partridge Family vibe.

Toss a Poppy Cotton throw on a neutral-hued sofa or chair in a spare, monochromatic room and see how it brings the space to life. Or hang one of Womack's stretched cotton canvases in a room that's threatening to take itself far too seriously.

The result is totally groovy -- but in a pretty, modern way. Plus, the oranges, rusts, browns, and greens of yesteryear are perfect for adding an autumnal touch to your home now that there's a bit of a chill in the air.

The clever creations (such as this Red Poppy Lampshade, $250) from Etsy seller When in Doubt Draw Flowers bring the charm, color, and graphic patterns of vintage wallpaper to your lamps and tabletops. The result is both witty and pretty.

Cool Stuff: Patterned Shades from Lamps Plus (Yes, Lamps Plus)

I know what you're thinking: Lamps Plus?

And I want it to be known that I'm not normally a Lamps Plus kind of gal -- I find most of their offerings alarmingly banal, and a few of them downright tacky. Plus, I generally try to avoid the sort of generic strip malls where one might stumble upon a Lamps Plus emporium.

But I was Googling "patterned drum shade" the other day -- don't ask me why; this is just the sort of thing that I do. And up popped the shade above (Harris Marcus Blue Flower Shade, $60) -- which, I have to admit, is pretty darn stylin'.

Intrigued, I clicked through to take a look, and then surfed around a bit to see what other surprises might lay in store in the long-underappreciated Lamps Plus lighting empire. There was a whole lotta fuglyness, to be sure -- but I also found these:

Etsy Find of the Day: Pendant Lights

These fabric-covered pendant lights from Etsy seller jobysoisson set my heart aflutter.

And, at just $50 each, they're a total bargain.

I've been looking for overhead lighting for our breakfast room, and a cluster of these hanging drums would be so pretty. Sold!

Cool Stuff: Clarissa Hulse Textiles

When we were in London this spring, I fell in love with textile designer Clarissa Hulse's dreamy products, which I spotted in chic U.K. home-decor shops like Heals and Aria.

Hulse makes gorgeous, ethereal lampshades, pillows, throws, wallpaper, and notebooks featuring delicate botanical silhouettes screen- or hand-printed onto colorful silk or linen backgrounds.

Granted, Hulse's designs are not cheap -- especially when you factor in the pounds-to-dollars exchange rate and overseas shipping. (Prices start at 15 pounds sterling -- roughly $30 -- for notebooks and go up to 395 pounds -- $790 -- for throws.) But they would literally make the room, so I think they're worthy of the splurge.

If your budget is tight (and whose isn't?), don't miss the Clarissa Hulse Sale Shop, with last season's stock discounted up to 75 percent. Sale pillows start at 17 pounds ($34); lampshades at 39 pounds ($78); and throws at 99 pounds ($198).
