I just want to go on record that I'm completely over the whole bird thing. But I'll make a huge exception for these exquisite fabric avians from London-based textile artist Abigail Brown, which transcend the twee, tired trend and qualify as true works of art. They're not exactly inexpensive, but they are absolutely covetable. Above: Fabric Bird in Nest, $154
Blue Birds Canvas, $137
Large Fabric Bird White, $150
Pink Bird in Blossom Canvas, $204
Fabric Bird Blue Gray Cream, $125
Matchbox Tweeter, $31
See all of Brown's Etsy offerings right here (I'm a fan of her crafty foxes, too) -- and check out more of her handmade creations here.

Cool Stuff: Bamboo Trio Mobile from Petit Collage
I spotted this wooden bird mobile at Lorena Siminovich's Petit Collage booth at Renegade last weekend, and was instantly smitten.
Though it's perfect for a nursery, it'd be equally sweet in a more grown-up space as well. The laser-cut bamboo plywood mobile is $76 right here.
(P.S. Here's another great alternative.)

Sweetly enigmatic, this set of three stoneware bird wings by buzzworthy Bay Area potter Sara Paloma is calling out to me.
Glazed matte white and flat on the back, the sculpted set can be displayed as a simple but lovely objet or mounted on the wall to serve as a three-dimensional piece of art.Just $20 for the set right here -- and click here and here to see Paloma's other graceful creations.

Cool Stuff: Swallow Mobile
I'm still kind of annoyed at Roost, but dang if they don't just keep cranking out beautiful products.
This delicate branch-and-bird mobile (which reminds me a bit of Helen Ige's, but rendered in a much more three-dimensional way) is perfect for hanging in a window or a drab corner to hearken the arriving spring.
Crafted from hand-carved basswood swallows suspended from a real branch, the mobile is $140 right here.

Cool Stuff: Kristian Vedel Birds
These winsome wooden birds were dreamed up as children's toys by Danish designer Kristian Vedel almost 50 years ago -- but they'll bring joy to the Danish-modern loving grownups on your list, too.
The oak birds are $45 to $69 each right here.

That's Random: A Little Lost Bird
A few minutes ago we found this small bird on our front step -- it was just sitting there in a bit of a daze. We tried to shoo it away, but it was having trouble flying and kept crashing into things.
Not knowing what else to do, I picked up the bird and brought it inside. (I don't know anything about birds -- despite now having a bunch of bird prints in my bathroom -- and only realized after the fact that maybe I shouldn't have done that ... )
The bird doesn't have any obvious injuries, although one of its eyes seems to be caked shut. It could be a baby that fell out of its nest, but I really can't tell for sure.
Anyone know what we should do? Should we release it back outside, or will that doom the poor thing -- especially if it has some injury we have yet to ascertain?
If there are any bird people out there, please advise. Thanks!
Update: We took the bird to our vet, who's going to check it out and then turn it over to a local wildlife rehabilitation organization. We kind of miss it already, but I'm glad the little tweet is in good hands.

Etsy Find of the Day: Porcelain Branches
Lovely as wall art or as a creative alternative to standard coat hooks and key-ring holders, these porcelain branches by Etsy seller Guy Michael Davis mount directly to the wall with attached screws.

Cool Stuff: Roost
This weekend I picked up one of these pretty perching birds at Mignonne (also available for $7 here), and it reminded me how much I love Roost's products.
The Sausalito, California design shop produces handmade items that share a delicate beauty and an organic sensibility that's inspired by the forms, textures, and inhabitants of the natural word.
I wish Roost had an online store with all of its offerings in one place -- but for now, you have to search around a bit to find the company's designs. (That said, Velocity has a pretty good selection, and both VivaTerra and the Well Dressed Home have a few Roost items.)
I've blogged about Roost's porcelain blooms before (sadly, they no longer seem to be available). Here are some of my favorites among Roost's other designs:Porcelain Bell Lamps, $99 to $187, from Velocity Art and Design
Cebu Sphere Lamps, $363 to $605, from Velocity
Log Votive and Vases, $22 to $106, and Owl, $27, from Velocity
Arbor Votive, $20, from Velocity
Glass Bird Vases, $39 for two, from VivaTerra
Love Nest With Glass Eggs, $42, from VivaTerra
Porcelain Pear Vases, $59 for three, from VivaTerra
Hourglasses, $24 each, from Figments
Nick and Nora Artist's Hand Models, $60 for the set, from the Well Dressed Home
Ice Poppy Bowl, $48, from the Well Dressed Home
These photos were featured on Roost's site, but I wasn't able to track down these products for sale anywhere out there on the Interwebs. (If you know where to find 'em, please let me know!)
Finally, both of these items came up on a search for "Roost" on the Well Dressed Home, and while I'm not 100% positive that they're actually Roost products, they certainly share the same sensibility:Five-piece Porcelain Mushroom Set, $48
Maple Porcelain Votive and Dish, $14 and $22

Cool Stuff: Not-Just-for-the-Nursery Mobiles
Who says mobiles are only for babies' rooms?
I can picture Helen Ige's winsome walnut-veneer Birds of a Feather mobile hung over a grouping of potted plants at the kitchen window, or gently twirling in the breeze in a serene adult bedroom, too.
Bonus: It comes in a frame that doubles as a stencil, so you can repeat the birds-and-branches motif on a wall or a textile.
The mobile is $65 here.
